Hiking to Spectacular Foster Falls in Tennessee
Foster Falls is a beautiful waterfall in southern Tennessee. It is definitely worth checking out if you find yourself near the southern terminus of the Fiery Gizzard Trail or staying at the Foster Falls Campground between Jasper Tennessee and Tracy City just northwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Foster Falls is a spectacular 60-foot waterfall located in South Cumberland State Park. In the warmer months, visitors flock to the deep pool below the falls to cool off with a swim. The best time to catch the falls at their full potential is during the wetter months of winter and spring.

Gray's Peak - The Easiest 14er?

This video is of my July summit of one of the easiest 14ers in Colorado, Grays Peak, the 25th tallest peak in the US. Grays Peak was the second Colorado 14er that I've completed so far (I summited Mt Elbert a few years back). Gray's Peak is rated as one of the easier 14ers in Colorado. Many also hike across the saddle to Torreys Peak to complete 2 14,000-foot peaks in one day. I did this with m...

Keep Your Backpacking Pillow From Sliding!
Amazing info, thanks for the details. This has made my planning experience so much easier!!
Awesome. When are you doing it?
@@AndyParrishOutdoors We are set for the week of Aug 12. 4 day 3 night. Coming up from Texas 😁wanted a nice long hike to celebrate our 40th bdays. The ‘We ain’t old yet hike’ 😂
Have a great time and let me know if you have any questions.
Super helpful
I'm glad it was useful!
Beautiful hiking trail Andy. The waterfall is so cool. I’ve been wanting to see that area for awhile.
It's a beautiful area. I have a lot more of it to check out. I'd love to get back there again...
That’s a gem of a waterfall there! I guess there’s no barrel rentals at the top. 😄 Thanks for sharing.
That would make it more interesting!
A gorgeous little hike. 👍👍
It really is!
Enjoyed watching! Thanks for sharing, Andy.✌️
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
It's such a cool waterfall & so close to the parking lot. It's definitely worth the climb down to see it if you are able.
and a pillow case. such a great idea!!
Thanks!
love the wrightsocks Merino Escape Crew. I make 4 day marches of 50k a day and never had a blister.
My son and I went through the entire cave. It was awesome. Plan to army crawl through water. Headlamp is required.
That is some dedication right there!
The mountain goats are pretty docile, they have no reason to fight humans and will only fight other animals if really threatened with young or in food scarcity. The latter being rare, since they eat basically any grasses or shrubs. Still a good idea to keep distance and let them be wild. I've heard they are delicious when slow cooked and shredded like pulled pork.
They look trained to expect food from hikers. At least that was my instinct.
@@AndyParrishOutdoors Unfortunately I suspect you are correct. Good message in the video to remind people to avoid the temptation to feed them. The back country isn't a petting zoo hahaha
Bear cannister is now required. I'm hoping to go to Maroon Bells in August or September 2024. Wish me luck on getting permits!
this includes some ursaks - igbconline.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/240612_Certified_Products_List.pdf
Thanks sir. The only unfortunate part of the video are the pre-inflation surge prices! Thanks for all the insight!
Inflation is the hidden tax, no doubt about it.
Do you have a recommendation for a solar battery backup for Philmont. Doing a 12-day and I don't want to carry anything huge just looking for a good solar battery backup
Hmm.. what is the science behind it?
Great video!
Thanks!
How long did this take you guys? Going 6/12/24 from Florida .
It took us 3 and a half hours to climb. We hung out at the summit for about 45 minutes. It took us about 2 and a half hours to make it back to the cars.
I think I'm going around the same time. Excited for it!
You lost a lot of credibility with me when you call the Pacific Crest trail the "Pacific Coast Trail" @25:30 I cannot fathom why Philmont continues with the recommendations that they do.
But I do like that you don't tell people that they have to get one shoe or the other. I do feel when it comes to footwear you did a pretty fair job at explaining the pros and cons of the different kinds.
Aw, crap. I'm sorry for that. Those kind of errors frustrate me. 🙄 Thanks for taking the time to watch & respond. I do feel that footwear is a personal choice and there is no ONE right answer. There are just tradeoffs. It's about finding the best option, FOR YOU. Thanks again...
Crazy creek chairs are amazing, you are also able to use it as a splint and easily collet firewood while at camp.
I've heard people mention them before, but I've not tried it. How heavy is it and how small does it pack down?
After coming off the ridge, down the stairs and near the creek crossings around the 56 minute point, there was a campsite way up the hill. I took a poo 💩 out there last year amongst the rhododendron. And recognize the tree roots around the 58:40 mark. Good memories. I wondered how the gorge would feel in the winter months, and now I got to experience it vicariously through you. Thanks for posting.
Thanks this was great fellas
Glad to hear it! 👍
Very good review. I've watched like 10 different one your is the best, thanks
Hey, thanks. I appreciate the kind words. I'll try and keep it up. 👍
Hi, I watched your RUclips video. Your every video is really awesome. But your channel and your videos expect more views and subs. I analyzed Your RUclips channel and I found RUclips video SEO is not done. This is why your video is not going viral and views are not increasing.
Thanks for watching and your feedback.
I didn't catch in your video, do you have the regular or the large? Trying to figure out which size would fit me best with hammock gear incubator 20F, hammock, and HG topquilt 20F
I have the large.
Nice, but watch the umms & awwwes. There are a lot which distracts from your advice.
Glad to see you highlight the use of a backcountry bidet. Really wish more people knew about it. Such a cleaner and less wasteful way to manage your cleanup!
The trouble is trying to figure out how to highlight it and still be tasteful...🤣
Looks like something that would work well with Superior Gear hammocks as well. (well, yeah, probably with ALL hammock brands)
True. It would. I can pack up my hammock, quilts, and pillow all in one sack. So it does have it's convenience. My big concern is I've become so used to stuffing it all in the bottom of my pack that it spreads out to all the nook and crannies while this is a more rigid form factor.
I just let a friend drink from my filter. If he gets sick I need a new filter!😅😅
That's one way to do it! 😂
Collapsable bottles are horrible. They can collapse with pressure change from elevation and open up on your gear and drain out. I use the 1L smart water bottles. For filtering, I went with the Pure Clear Life Survival Straw combined with a CNOC 3 Liter bag with a 28MM opening. This filter can filter out viruses and everything else so there is no need to use those tablets other than having them as a backup. I can use the CNOC 3 Liters for additional water storage to take to a dry camp in combination with my 1L bottles. I went with this because the Katadyn and Sawyer do not do viruses. They specifically state it on their site. Your only options for getting a filter that does is the Pure Clear Life Survival Straw or the Grayl water bottles. I use a squeeze top on my smellable bottle and use a hydration tube on my drinking water bottle. I keep my spare bottles just for storage of water until needed. The hydration tube makes it so that I don't have to reach under a pack cover to get to my water. This is my first trek and I have done a lot of research so far and trials on shakedowns. If someone more experienced has better options, I am all ears, but this is what I have found works best so far from shakedowns. Link to the Pure clear: www.pureclearfilters.co.uk/bottles/pure-clear-life-filter/ Link to the CNOC 28MM bag: cnocoutdoors.com/collections/collecting/products/28mm-vectox-water-container Link to the Hydration tube: www.amazon.com/Srempeom-Hydration-Drinking-Tube-Reservoir/dp/B0CRZDSLS7/ref=sr_1_1?crid=37416H227APJZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.hqpt2XembPz4Ga97OmXiXdILvXI4nLUKxc-GOhqq69ILGEiLSo6lCt4CVybd5eQVDJ-8Apw4KG43IGGIafvMiRxNz4W-vp1hkIaG6bkC1Ltr6eYY1QhcC0JaTJRcO4eMZrsw2NLkCgLxDCUiRo1eacYa_Ox1mDXF9Onuo1xsCwzZD9Sgkof1mowCYu9vbkVQZD6WYVJKHQJ97jYQvZobQQsqxTp5cdqeoo5ItNGSnbm8Kpm36OEUBklT9QY-pNwdJvUqY-EcHQTFSGE8Ui4rjYXqy1ch-5qfELAGxqoETjk.AihNeOuRiNLvEU3LoKa13UonyKMIwgyxd92-0tdGDgg&dib_tag=se&keywords=srempeom+hydration+drinking+tube&qid=1713899195&sprefix=srempeom+hydration+drinking+tube%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-1
I think what you have should be fine. I'm not sure that you'll need to worry about viruses as they aren't a common threat in the backcountry in the United States which is why you see so many Sawyers and katadyn filters sold here. They are an issue in many other parts of the world though. In the backcountry, The big issues are going to be Giardia, cryptosporidium, and some bacterias like E coli. What collapsible bottles have you used that are so horrible? I've used the befree from Katadyn as a filter and the hydrapak squeeze bottles for years without issues. I particularly like the hydrapak flask for smell able drink mixes so that it can easily pack down & fit into a bear bag in the evening.
Thanks, I needed this!
Awesome, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love to hear things like this!
Would you add dehy veg with the chicken so you have all in 1 bag?
You absolutely can. I do that with my chicken, bean, cheese, and rice burrito
Another very fine video Andy. You have really upped you editing skills sir. Hope to actually meet you and not just realize it's you after the Wisconsin Frozen Butt Hang was done. No, I wouldn't do a polar plunge, I've done enough time doing ice baths at home.
Hey thanks, I'm trying to keep making improvements. But it's always great to get feedback. Either way. Thanks for watching.
THANKS Very creative fix using existing stuff I already own==pillow is so important for a comfortable nights rest
Sometimes it's nice to make what you got just work... without having to get something else... !
The Olicamp XTS pot with the 1.7 oz titanium stove (sold as a set) is my favorite: pot stores rubber collapsable cup + fuel cannister + stove+stove base+lighter +dish towel + pot gripper (lose the handles and lid) in net sack. I have created a 4oz 10" non stick skillet 3/8' deep that works with pot gripper as well--tortillas, pancakes ,fish, fried eggs etc. "Freezer bag cooking' with repackaging of all meals and a COZEE (foil bubbler wrap pouch for quart size ziploc bags) to hold food mix while rehydrating and cooking---No dishes or bulky MH bags to carry out--Bubble wrap wind screen loosley around entire frypan and stove setup.
Hey thanks for this! I’m going backpacking for the very first time on this trail soon. Any knowledge and advice is appreciated!!!
So excited for you. It is a great location to do some hiking and camping. I've taken multiple beginner groups there over the years. Where are you starting from?
@@AndyParrishOutdoors Oh awesome! I’m planning to start at the entrance closest to the Walls Shelter :)
Yep, I've done the plunge at 11,700 feet. Glacier fed lake. Looks like you had a blast.
Ok, that's a whole other level. 😲 Where was that? Sounds badass...
@AndyParrishOutdoors last summer. Crow and I hiked a section of the CDT in Wind River Range. We had just come off a snowy pass.
Who the heck is that standing on the snow barefooted lmao. No shirt on, too. I don't think a polar plunge will work for me. Lol. I'm surprised all you guys survived all those shenanigans.
It is a fun bunch of characters. That is for sure... They've been doing it for years. That was only my second year joining in... So far we haven't lost anyone... That I can recall... 🤔 🤣🤣🤣
would you do a polar plunge?
Fun trip! Looked like they had a great time! Connecting the canoes was an energy boost for them too, even if only mental. :) I enjoyed your daughter watching the stove top rattle when you were popping popcorn! Well done, Dad! Thanks for sharing your trip.
Thanks, it was such a great time creating those memories!
@@AndyParrishOutdoors Hopefully plans for more are already in the works!
As long as I'm breathing... 😉 It's the best.
Grays Peak was my second 14er, the first being Torreys on the same hike. I think I was still in high school when I did them.
It's a great pair to start with!
Great video, but the background music made it hard to hear you.
Sorry about that. I've gotten better over the years... At least I hope...
Watching this video makes me appreciate nature even more. Thank you for reminding us of the importance of connecting with the wilderness.Liked!
It is such a benefit to spend time in the wilderness... At least I belive so! Thanks for watching.
Useful video. With respect, a small presentation suggestion .. don’t end each clip with a smile. When the clips are joined together it looks weird and artificial.
Thank you for taking the time to give some feedback. I appreciate your thoughts and I'll continue to try and improve the content. Thanks so much for watching.
Your criticism was so polite and helpful. Great comment! I also loved the ideas in the video. I live off of bean burritos at home so I will feel at home on the trail now
Superb video!
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent editing Andy. You turned a RUclips video into an art/documentary short film. BWCA, awesome place year round.
Wow, thanks! That's so nice of you to say. You made my day. 👍
Excellent video, Andy. I never had the need for micro spikes, but in your case, they look mandatory.
I've only used them a few times. And that was one of them! It was a total sheet of ice!
Very nice coverage, Andy! Thank-you for taking us along!
Thanks for coming along on the Adventure!
@@AndyParrishOutdoors This is definitely on my list, really appreciate you showing how you got there
Yeah buddy! I have a love and hate relationship with these video but it's only out of petty jealousy. 😂
You should join us next year...
I'm waiting.............. 🤪
Not anymore...
